Figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation for the month of January show that both Mullingar and Tullamore hospitals recorded significant increases again.
The number of people waiting on trolleys at Mullingar in January of 2016 was 540 in total, and this month it rose to 635.
In Tullamore, January of 2016 saw a total of 503 people waiting for beds, but this year that was topped as well, rising to 556.
There was also a significant increase in the number of people waiting on trolleys at Sligo hospital this January, compared to the same time last year.
279 people had to wait during January of 2016, but this rose to 439 for the same period this year.
Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe has recorded a big decrease in patients on trolleys this January compared to last year.
January of 2017 saw 379 people on trolleys there, but this year’s figure was 191 for the first month of the year.
