The inability of hospitals to discharge or place patients in a step down facility is putting huge pressure on the health sector according to Fianna Fáil’s health spokesperson Billy Kelleher.
New HSE figures show over 15 thousand bed days were lost each month in hospitals nationwide in the first half of the year.
It also shows more than 90,000 bed days were lost while over 86,000 people were waiting for treatment at the same time.
Today 69 patients are waiting for treatment on trolleys at public hospitals in Mullingar, Tullamore, Ballinasloe, Sligo and Galway.
