A site near a village in Westmeath, and close to the border with Longford, could end up storing up to a third of Irish whiskey stocks in the future.
The Sunday Business Post is reporting an international consortium wants to develop a €135 million whiskey storage facility at Moyvore to take advantage of the boom Irish whiskey sales.
The project is being spearheaded by Mullingar businessmen Alan and Ted Wright and is being backed by an international consortium.
Planning is to be submitted at the end of this month for phase one of the project, which would involve the construction of a whiskey filling facility and 12 warehouses, and would involve 20 acres of the site.
The entire site is reported to cover 100 acres and phase two would involve an interpretative centre and museum for all of the tenants on the site.
