Disappointment as Athlone loses out in Community Games hosting bid

Athlone Mayor Aengus O’ Rourke says he believes the voting for the host town for the Community Games finals came down to the wire, with the town likely losing out by very little.

He was commenting on the news that the University of Limerick has been chosen to host the event for the next three years after beating bids by Athlone IT and NUIG.

The games were withdrawn from Athlone in 2016 because the organisers said they weren’t able to get the necessary financial support.
