Syrian refugees to stay in Ballaghaderreen for six months

children-war-syria-pixabayA UN official is insisting the Syrian refugees will only be accommodated in the Roscommon hotel for about six months.

About 80 asylum-seekers are expected to arrive from Italy and Greece at the Abbeyfield Hotel in Ballaghaderreen from March.

Local Fine Gael Senator Maura Hopkins says the Department of Justice is ultimately considering housing up to 250 refugees in the hotel and apartments to the rear.

However, Jody Clarke, works in the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, insists this isn’t a long-term arrangement.

The Tuam man also explains the horrific conditions the refugees have experienced recently.
