It’s likely that the new palliative care centre at Roscommon University Hospital will be fully operational in four years’ time.
Minister for Health Simon Harris has provided written confirmation to the Roscommon Mayo Hospice the HSE will provide the resources necessary to staff the unit once it’s built.
Construction of the centre, which will cost more than €8 million, will begin once a sister centre in Castlebar is complete – that’s expected to open in early 2019.
