A Roscommon man has been honored with the ”Thomas Manton Irish Person of the Year Award” in New York.
Originally from Boyle, Hilary Beirne is Chief Administrative Officer of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
After earning a degree in agricultural sciences, he worked for various agricultural businesses in Ireland and Northern Ireland before immigrating to America to become a teacher – he now teaches science in Westchester County.

He started working for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with his uncle Frank Beirne, which led to a life-time of dedication to the parade.
Hillary received the honor this week during the City Council’s Irish Heritage & Culture Celebration.
