The chairman of Roscommon IFA has issued a warning to farmers after a substantial loss of livestock in a slurry tragedy.
Eight cattle, valued at up to €10,000, were killed in a slurry-related accident in west Roscommon at the weekend.
It’s understood the incident happened at a farm at Lisacurkia, Tibohine, near Ballaghaderreen.
It’s believed a farmer was mixing slurry with solids when the eight animals died after inhaling toxic gases.
One man was also reportedly overcome with fumes, but escaped serious injury.
Roscommon IFA chairman John Hanley sympathises with the farmer.
