Roscommon hospice to benefit from garda memorial fundraising

The Roscommon Mayo hospice is to benefit from the fundraising earlier this year to build a memorial to two gardai killed in the line of duty in 1980.

The committee set up to raise money to build the memorial to Henry Byrne and John Morley at Shannon’s Cross managed to raise enough for the structure and have a substantial amount left over.

Brendan Gordon from the local committee says they got huge support from garda members all across the country, GAA clubs in Roscommon and Mayo, and the wider community.

He says they’re very happy to be able to make a presentation of the extra money to the hospice in the Village Inn at Loughglynn tomorrow night.
