Roscommon councillor Nigel Dineen is calling for immediate action to be taken to resolve crisis staffing levels at Castlerea Garda station.
Councillor Dineen says he is horrified to find out that just eight gardai are trying to cover five units at the station and says this isn’t physically possible.
The Garda Representative Association says the numbers have fallen to critical levels in the past year but their appeal for more manpower has fallen on deaf ears.
Nigel Dineen says that at least 12 extra gardai are needed to man Castlerea and even that number would only bring it up to par with the staffing levels at Boyle which is a smaller unit.
