REVEALED: HSE overspends Roscommon regional health budget by almost €10m up to August

The HSE overspent its budget by nearly €10 million in the Roscommon region in the first eight months of 2017.

Details released under the Freedom of Information Act show that, as of August, there was a deficit of €2.7 million in primary care in Roscommon, Galway and Mayo and €2.3 million in social care.

However, the largest overspend was in mental health – €4.6 million, mainly due to unfunded pay awards, overtime and agency costs.

Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy claims the deficits come as the health services are in crisis.
