PODCAST: Muslims clash over Ballagh mosque plan

The proposal to turn St Mary’s convent in Ballaghaderreen into a mosque has prompted controversy in the town.

Last week Mohammad Aslam, who recently came to live in Roscommon, placed an offer on the protected structure, built in 1876.

The building is due to be auctioned shortly, with a reserve price of €50,000.

Mr Aslam wants to turn it into a mosque, but the Ballaghaderreen Islamic Community Centre committee rejects the idea.

The differing views were aired on Tuesday’s Let’s Talk.
