There is no ‘quick fix’ to solving unemployment levels in West Roscommon.
That’s according to Senator Maura Hopkins who, along with a delegation of Oireachtas members and representatives of Ballaghdereen chamber of commerce, met with jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O’ Connor.
It follows the shock closure of the ECMI cigar factory in Ballaghaderreen with the loss of 38 jobs.
The group made a number of proposals including creating a better brand for the region and building on the proximity of Ireland West Airport.
Further calls were made to support and help finance small business while it was also pointed out that the Galway Roscommon ETB is available to help re-train and upskill individuals.
Senator Maura Hopkins says the commitment is there to develop the region
