Night rescue mission on Lough Ree ends successfully

Emergency services came to the aid of a cruiser on Lough Ree on Saturday night.

At about 8pm, the boat was en route from Athlone to Hodson Bay when it encountered engine trouble at Yellow Island.

The passengers put down an anchor and called the Irish Coast Guard, which alerted Lough RNLI, and they were duly towed to Hodson Bay safely by the lifeboat crew.
