Naughten: eir’s withdrawal will quicken broadband delivery

Communications Minister Denis Naughten says the dramatic withdrawal of eir from the National Broadband Plan will actually speed up the rural roll out.

The Roscommon TD was reacting to claims that the future of rural broadband is in disarray after the surprise move which affects more than half a million homes and businesses waiting for high-speed internet.

The minister said that with just one bidder, Enet, left in the running for the state-subsidised contract, the network will be installed more quickly.
