N5 planning process likely to take all of 2018 to resolve – project manager

Preparations for work to begin on the new N5 between Ballaghadereen and Scramogue in Co Roscommon have begun this week.

The contract to begin the CPO process was signed at a special meeting of Roscommon County Council last Friday, and the council has begun issuing CPO orders in recent days.

The project will involve building almost 35 kilometres of new road, as well as an almost 15-kilometre realignment of existing roads.


CPO’s are being issued for up to 600 different parcels of land owned by 326 different landowners, as well as two houses, one of which is occupied at present.

Project Manager Mark Keaveny says they expect submissions to be made to An Bord Pleanala from some people who will be impacted, and it will probably take most of next year to get a decision….
