Murphy: General Register Office in Roscommon in jeopardy

Fears have been raised that the General Register Office in Roscommon town could close, with the loss of 35 jobs.

Fianna Fáil TD Eugene Murphy claims that with a review of the service imminent, the department that processes births, death and marriage certificates could be set to leave the Shannonside region.

It is the national headquarters for civil records, processing requests from countrywide.

Deputy Murphy claims there’s growing concerns among staff in Roscommon, and wants Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty to clarify the future of the GRO.
