A Roscommon councillor is calling on Minister Denis Naughten to use his influence to resolve the lack of ambulance cover for the west of the county.
Fianna Fáil councillor Pascal Fitzmaurice is highlighting a recent incident where a young girl with cardiac issues was left waiting over an hour for an ambulance to come to her home near Loughglynn.
An ambulance base was opened in Loughglynn in January of 2016, but Councillor Fitzmaurice says it was clear from the beginning that it was not providing any real cover to the area.
He says one of its main critics at the time was Denis Naughten who has since become much less vocal on the matter.
Speaking on the Let’s Talk show this afternoon, Councillor Fitzmaurice called on Minister Naughten to ensure that a proper ambulance service is provided for west Roscommon before a tragedy happens.
