LISTEN: IFA chairman says ‘table salt more toxic than glyphosate’

Roscommon IFA chairman John Hanley told Wednesday’s Let’s Talk that he strongly opposes a ban on glyphosate.

The key ingredient in weedkiller could be taken off the shelves as MEPs voted on Tuesday at the European Parliament to make the substance illegal.

The herbicide has been under the spotlight as its licence is up for renewal across Europe.

There is a global campaign to have the chemical glyphosate completely banned, with groups claiming it’s a hugely harmful chemical.

Midlands-Northwest MEP Mairéad McGuinness and Hanley, who’s a tillage farmer, expressed their views on Wednesday’s programme, with IFA official claiming table salt is more toxic.
