Boyle Municipal District has allocated €9,500 in funding towards a new CCTV scheme in Ballaghaderreen.
A sub-committee of Ballaghaderreen Town Team has been working on the initiative for the past two years.
After Northwood Technology was appointed to design it, it was determined the project would cost about €87,000, with at least eight cameras planned for the town.
To do this, however, they need to raise about €50,000 locally, hoping to get the remainder through the Department of Justice.
The town team recently called on local councillors to ensure some funding was provided through Roscommon County Council.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Michael Mulligan is pleased with the allocation agreed at Monday’s meeting of Boyle Municipal District.
