It’s hoped a CCTV system will be installed in Ballaghaderreen next year, costing €87,000.
A sub-committee of Ballaghaderreen Town Team has been working on the initiative for the past two years.
Giving an update at a meeting of the town team on Thursday night, gardaí revealed the project would cost about €87,000 after Northwood Technology were appointed to design it.
Micheál Frain, the chairman of the town team, says it’s hoped eight cameras will be installed in Ballaghaderreen in 2018.
To do this, however, they want to raise about €50,000, hoping to get the remainder through a grant from the Department of Justice.
The town team wants Boyle Municipal District to allocate some of its funding towards the project early in the new year, as Mr Frain explains.
