Roscommon GAA’s plans to develop their own centre of excellence has been handed a major boost after government funding of over €100k was secured for the project.
At this month’s County Board convention, county board treasurer David O’Connor gave a commitment that the GAA would build the facility which is earmarked for Runnabracken just outside of the town.
Several hundred thousand euro has been raised locally for the development, with hopes that some work might be able to begin in 2018 to develop the site.
Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed that the government will be providing €111,500 to the project which the Environment Minister claims will be of a huge benefit to all ages in Roscommon in the coming years.
The funding has also been welcomed by Senator Frank Feighan.
