Coillte has lodged at least seven planning applications relating to forestry work in west Roscommon.
The applications, filed with Roscommon County Council this week, seek to develop new forest road entrances for harvesting plantations.
They relate to Ballaghaderreen, Castlerea, Castleplunkett, Loughglynn and Strokestown.
Coillte says the planning applications are to open new forest entrances on to the country roads, adding forest roads provide crucial access to forests.
It adds they assist plantation inspection and management, provide and facilitate forest-fire protection and permit efficient timber-harvesting.
