The Minister for Children doesn’t believe the Justice Department has mis-handled plans to accommodate Syrian refugees in Ballagahderreen later this year.
Frances Fitzgerald and David Stanton will meet with local Oireachtas members tomorrow to outline the next stages in the process of helping Syrians adapt and integrate into the community when they arrive in late March.
Concerns have been raised at a seeming lack of consultation with the local community in placing up to 200 refugees at the former Abbeyfield Hotel over the next two years.
Katherine Zappone is sympathetic to local’s concerns, but believes the department is doing its best in a tough situation.
Meanwhile Fianna fail TD Eugene Murphy thinks the Justice Minister needs to come to Ballaghdaderreen and speak to local representatives directly.
The Roscommon-Galway deputy thinks it is up to Frances Fitzgerald to end the confusion around the plan for the town.
