There was delight and relief for many of the 1,500 Shannonside students who received their Leaving Cert results this morning.
Results of the state examination were released from 9am, with a steady flow of pupils attending their schools to receive them.
This year saw a new grading system introduced, with results reduced to eight grades from 14 in previous years.
However, among those who were delighted where Imad Alsalay and Conor Jordan, from St Mel’s College in Longford and Carrick-on-Shannon Community School respectively.
The principal of St Mel’s, Declan Rowley, was proud of his students’ achievements, but believes the exam has become too pressurised..
