Shannonside house prices rise sharply

House prices in the Shannonside region have risen by an average of 13 per cent over the past year – but remain the cheapest in Ireland.

Today’s report by property website Daft.ie also says Longford is the least expensive area in the country to buy a home, at €108,000.

However, house prices in the county rose by 9.8 per cent in the final quarter of 2016, compared to the final three months of the previous year.

Leitrim is the second cheapest place in the country, the average property costing €118,000, up 13.4 per cent.

Roscommon saw the largest growth in the Shannonside region, 15.9 per cent, the average home costing €125,000 – the fourth cheapest in Ireland.

Daft.ie predicts further growth of 8 per cent nationally by the end of this year.
