This afternoon Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin has paid tribute to the former councillor, describing him a committed community activist and that no issue was too big or too small for him to work on during his time on the council.

Mr Martin also described the former councillor as someone who will be sorely missed by his colleagues on Longford County Council.

Longford-Westmeath Fianna Fail Robert Troy has said the pharmacist was respected across the political divide and brought a great deal of business expertise to the council.
