More than 100 construction jobs are to be created when construction work starts on a major expansion plant in Longford town next week.
Significantly more than €14 million will be invested in Panelto Foods’ project, which will also create 110 long-term jobs.
The expansion will be completed within a year.
In September, Panelto Foods was given planning permission to double its 50,000 square-foot premises in the Longford Business and Technology Park in the Ballinalee Road in Longford.
As part of the expansion, its workforce would rise from 150 to 260.
In a statement today, Panelto, which produces sandwich breads, confirms that work on the facility will begin next week.
During the 12-month construction phase, 100 jobs will be created, while recruitment for the 110 permanent posts will start early next year.
Supported by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation through Enterprise Ireland, the expansion is part-financed by a long-term €14-million debt facility through the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund.
A Panelto spokesman says this new investment will allow the company to meet the changing consumer needs in the market through increased production, capability and innovation.
Business Minister Heather Humphreys and Enterprise Ireland chief executive Julie Sinnamon have welcomed the news.
