A Longford GP is urging women who are pregnant to get the Whooping Cough vaccination.
Dr Padraig McGarry who’s Chairman of the GP Committee of the Irish Medical Organisation says there have been new cases of the condition in the recent past and one child is seriously ill.
The HSE confirmed earlier this year that there had been several cases of the respiratory condition among babies in Longford and one child had died as a result.
Babies can’t be vaccinated again Whooping Cough until they’re two months old, but if a mother gets vaccinated while she is pregnant she may be able to pass some of her resistance on to her child.
