Longford’s Northern Quarter could be sold before Christmas

The chief executive of Longford County Council has expressed hope that the sale of the Northern Quarter in the town could be completed before Christmas.

Paddy Mahon explained at Monday’s annual budget discussions that the council will be meeting with two prospective bidders this Wednesday to discuss the possible finalisation of the sale of the multi-acre site.

Mr Mahon explained to the meeting that following on from tomorrow’s meeting, it may be required to host a special in-committee meeting before the next council meeting planned for December 13th in order to update members on the progress of the sale.

Earlier this year Shannonside FM revealed that a group of foreign investors were interested in purchasing the site, which contains the vacant Longford shopping centre and has been valued at €1.7million.
