An event to discuss Traveller ethnicity and what it means to be a a member of the Travelling community in Longford is taking place in the county library today.
The chairman of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Anastasia Crickley is the guest of honour, as a panel discussion attempts to explain the significance of comments made by Taoiseach Enda Kenny March 1st.
In the Dáil, he confirmed the Irish state recognised travellers as a distinct ethnic group within the Irish nation.
However, six months on, Traveller organisations claim there is much confusion around what the statement means, and what new rights Travellers can now avail of.
