Tesco staff in Longford claim they are on striking today in order to ‘save their jobs’.
A number of members of the public have crossed the picket line outside the store this morning as approximately a dozen staff take part in a dispute over pay and conditions for 250 workers nationwide.
Employees at eight Tesco stores across the country, including Longford, are picketing their branches in a long-running row over pay after Tesco sought to change the contracts of staff hired before 1996
Tesco wants the 250 remaining pre-1996 staff to accept a recommendation from the Labour Court but Longford staff member John Keogh says that the proposed changes will have a huge effect on his family’s life:
This man was one of a number of people who crossed the picket line to do their shopping in Tesco this morning.
He explained that he likes the shop and wanted to use Tesco to get a Valentine’s Day present
