The number of people unemployed in Longford and Leitrim is at its lowest level since July 2008 according to new figures from the CSO.
The October live register figures show that 2,967 people received some form of unemployment assistance last month in Longford – the first time in nine years that the figure has been below 3,000 mark.
There were 65 fewer people on the live register in October in Longford compared to September according to the latest figures from the CSO.
The drop means Longford’s unemployment rate is at its lowest level in nine years and the trend is also reflected in the other Shannonside counties too.
Month on month figures for October show a drop of thirty-three people on Leitrim’s unemployment figures compared to September with the county’s unemployment rate now at 2,041 – it’s lowest level since 2,000 people were unemployed in July nine years ago.
Roscommon’s unemployment level dropped by 59 last month, bringing its total unemployment rate to 2,479 – which is its lowest level since November 2008.
