Longford could house Dublin’s homeless

Dublin housing lists could be dispersed to Longford and surrounding counties under a new plan by the Housing Minister Simon Coveney.

That’s according to local Independent councillor Mae Sexton, who says she has grave concerns about the accuracy of recent census figures on vacant housing in the county.

A motion put forward at the monthly meeting of Longford council asked that the authority dedicate a full-time member of staff to examine area by area, the figures identifying 3,100 empty houses in Longford.

Speaking on Let’s Talk today, Councillor Sexton says she doesn’t believe the figures are accurate, but they may lead to the county being assigned some of the housing lists spoken of by Minister Coveney in recent days.
