Longford group wants change in childcare sector

Longford Women’s Link is joining calls for a rethink of changes to schemes affecting the childcare sector.

Changes to the community employment childcare scheme, where unemployed people get on-the-job training, have come in from January 1st, and there are also changes in the form of the Single Affordable Childcare Scheme.

Louise Lovett of Longford Women’s Link says while the changes are intended to be positive, the outcome on the ground is quite different.

She says a total of 11 childcare providers in Longford will be affected by the changes and in their own instance, the costs to the Women’s Link centre will be in the region of at least €40,000 euro.
