Longford Greyhound Stadium saved after major fundraising

The future of Longford Greyhound Stadium has been secured after local fundraisers raised €28,000 in the past number of weeks.

The track, which is owned by Scottish businessman Howard Wallace, began a fundraising campaign to raise up to €25,000 to secure its future after suffering financial difficulties.

A rise in costs, as well as an overall drop in numbers attending the track, led to the creation of a special fundraising committee to try to secure its future.

However, following a successful campaign that has seen dozens of greyhound fans donate €200 each, the track has exceeded its €25,000 euro target.

Track manager Paddy Farrington explains how the money will be used.
