A Longford councillor is voicing his concern at what methods are to be used in an operation to kill the highly invasive Japanese Knotweed along main roads in Longford.
Members of the council were told at a recent meeting that Transport Infrastructure Ireland will be funding a project to tackle the weed along the primary road network in the county.
Councillor Gerry Warnock said while he welcomed the project, he would be concerned about the method of spraying being used to kill the plant.

Councillor Warnock said that stem injection is said to be best in tackling the problem long term but that because it’s more costly, it’s likely that spray will be used instead.
