Longford company wins battle to provide driver course

A Longford company has won an eight-year battle to provide a special driver training course in the county for the very first time.

The Hynes Quinn school of motoring had applied almost a decade ago to try and provide the Transport Manager CPC course, which is required by anyone who wishes to operate as a haulier or a transport company.

The course, which is normally run over a number of weeks, has previously only been available in select locations, and was not offered by any company in Longford or Leitrim.


However, following the intervention of Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice, the Department of Transport last week confirmed that the Longford company will be able to provide the service at the Longford Arms Hotel later this year.
