Nearly 2,000 older people across the Shannonside region are receiving reduced state pensions because of changes introduced in 2012.
The anomaly affects more than 42,000 pensioners countrywide, mainly women, who took time out of the workforce to care for family members.
The issue caused an outcry after the government failed to address it in the budget and protesters, including many from this region, will today highlight their grievances with a protest outside Leinster House.
Across Shannonside counties, 764 people are affected in Westmeath, 606 in Roscommon, 314 in Longford and 279 in Leitrim.
The protest, which is being supported by a number of organisations, will take place ahead of a cabinet meeting later today to examine proposals aimed at addressing inequalities in the pension system.
