The head of the Granard Garda division has urged the public not to lose faith in the work they are doing despite a number of recent public scandals involving the force.
Last month it emerged that Garda figures in relation to breath tests may have been exaggerated while concern has also been raised over other crime figures nationally.
Superintendent Brian Mohan revealed at this week’s Longford Joint Policing Committee that he personally reviewed all crime figures in the Granard division before presenting them to the members and he was satisfied they were accurate.
He explained that crime in the north Longford area is below average and that just one person was detected for speeding in a 24 hour period last week.
He told Shannonside FM that it is important the public maintain its faith in the work the Gardai are doing at present around checkpoints
