A Granard company has been awarded the main contract for the €2.5-million upgrade of Pearse Park.
Serious structural issues were identified in the Longford GAA ground some time ago, which reduced its capacity to 4,500, but this will be restored to 9,000 when the overhaul is complete.
Parts of the terraces and stand will be demolished and rebuilt, with full construction to begin later this month.
Work will be complete by September and, in the meantime, all planned GAA matches will go ahead.
Peter O’Reilly, the secretary of Longford GAA, is delighted local contractor David Blessington Concrete Works has been appointed to carry out the upgrade.
