Gardaí issue warning after Longford car-theft

Gardaí are warning motorists in Longford to make sure their cars are secure when they use a remote device to lock them.

It comes after an incident at Harbour Row in Longford town between a 5.15 and 5.30 yesterday evening.

A woman parked a silver Mercedes car on the street for a short time while she went into a shop.

When she came out, she drove to a car park but then discovered her handbag had been stolen from the boot of her car.

Staff at the shop told her they had seen a man take something from the boot of the car while she was inside.

Gardaí suspect a blocking device could have been used to interrupt the signal from the remote control and they are urging people to be aware when they are leaving their cars.
