Christmas celebrations at St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford town move up a gear this weekend.
A live crib is to be staged on the grounds on Sunday from three o’ clock until five, and a special Christmas concert takes place in the cathedral on Sunday evening.
Tickets for the concert are being sold in aid of local charities at ten euro each, and the concert is due to begin at half past seven on Sunday evening.

The concert, with soloist Emer Barry and Chamber Ensemble, is organised and performed each year by the Longford County Choir, with up to €40,000 raised over the last ten years.
