Calls for government to re-balance costs of local nursing home care

There are calls for the government to rebalance the costs of nursing home care between the public and private sectors.

Nursing Homes Ireland has published figures that claim the average cost per week for care in HSE public nursing homes in Roscommon is 73 percent more than private or voluntary nursing homes in the county.

The difference in Leitrim is 47% more in the public sector where costs can reach over 2,000 euro per week (St Patrick’s Carrick on Shannon) compared to averages of over 800 euro in the private sector.


Tadhg Daly, Head of Nursing Homes Ireland says the government need to act on proposed reviews of efficiencies in the state-run sector and the Fair Deal scheme itself.
