Army clearing footpaths in Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon

Met Eireann have extended its status orange warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.

It will now be in place until midday tomorrow.

Lying snow and ice are continuing to cause hazardous conditions – while there’s also a risk of localised flooding as river levels rise.


All Regional Roads are now open in Longford with the exception of the R393 from Carrickboy through Ratharney to County Boundary.

Crews are currently working  at this location.

Longford County Council, along with the Army, have the paths and carparks cleared at all the schools in Ballymahon.  They are currently working on the footpaths on the Athlone Road in Ballymahon.

Roads at the following National Schools are clear   –  Fermoyle, Newtowncashel, Ardagh and Colehill.

Shrule road is blocked.

Road at Brady’s Piggery in Carrickboy is blocked.

Rhinroe Road Closed

Fostra Augnnaclife Road Closed

Ferriskill to Lisryan Closed

Ferriskill to Browns Cross closed

Lislea road blocked.

Longford County Council are currently working on clearing the Moigh Road.

A number of Roads are blocked in the North Longford Area, Edgeworthstown and Legan area.

Roads are still treacherous and drivers should exercise extreme caution.
