There are over 16,000 non-Irish nationals living in the Shannonside region, according to the latest Census figures from the CSO.
The figures represent 12 percent of the population of the region, slightly above the national average of 11.6 percent.
Over 6,600 people in Roscommon and over 3,500 in Leitrim are non-Irish nationals, with both counties slightly less than the national average.
Country Longford on the other hand is just one of eight counties in Ireland to show an increase in its non-Irish national population recording the second highest increase in the country at 9.1 percent since 2011.
Longford now has over 6,000 non-Irish nationals representing 14.7 percent of the population.
The towns of Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon in County Longford, at over 32 percent have the second and third highest proportion of non-Irish nationals in the country.
