Over 1,500 children in the Shannonside region are part of families on local authority housing lists according to government figures.
In a written answer to a query from TD Catherine Murphy, the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney revealed that of as September last year, 689 children in Longford were recorded as being apart of households who qualify for social housing support from the county council.
The figure in Roscommon is 555, while 286 children in Leitrim were recorded as being on the local authority’s social housing support list.

Nationally of 91,000 households who qualify for support, 46,000 include at least one child, with 84,000 children in total eligible for social housing support.
