A Waterford City Councillor says the appointment of Lar Power as Leitrim’s new chief executive would be Waterford’s loss and Leitrim’s gain.
Jason Murphy described the Wexford native as “very progressive and positive” and said he had been instrumental in securing funding for a greenway between Waterford city and county, which has been a game-changer for tourism in the region.
His comments come after an Independent councillor in Leitrim, Des Guckian, said he had serious concerns regarding the process behind the appointment of the new chief executive.
Mr Murphy also said Mr Power had been very involved in getting a massive €300 million regeneration in the North Quays in Waterford city off the ground and that he would be sorry to see him go.
Leitrim councillors are due to meet tomorrow to ratify Mr Power’s appointment as chief executive having been chosen for the role by the Public Administration Commission.
