Two local people died in workplace accidents in 2017

Two people in the Shannonside region were among 48 fatal workplace accidents recorded by the Health and Safety Authority last year.

One person in Leitrim, and one in Roscommon, lost their lives during 2017, according to new figures released by the HSA today.

The organisation is again appealing to farmers and those working in the agriculture to pay particular care after 24 deaths were reported in the sector last year, making it the eighth year in a row the industry recorded the highest number of deaths.

Martin O’Halloran, the HSA’s chief executive, says older farmers are especially at risk, with 14 killed in the last year, and many were working alone at the time of the accident.
