Shannonside commuters can expect significant delays on train journeys home this evening as a result of storm Ophelia.
Due to a larger number of leaves on rail lines countrywide, trains are suffering from issues of adhesion on tracks countrywide.
Irish Rail claims at present passengers in this region will face delays of 40 minutes on Sligo-Longford trains and up to 25 minutes on Galway-Westport train services.
Commuters are being advised to check online before any train journeys as delays may vary in different regions.
Irish Rail spokesperson Jane Cregan says it’s doing its best to remedy the situation.
